Math Resources

Stay Cool as a Calculator with Summer Math!

Road Trip Ideas:

  • Counting by 1 or skip counting by 2, 5, or 10 to 100 and beyond! Frontwards, backwards -- all of these brain benders are helpful to develop number sense!
  • Use an inexpensive LCD tablet (like this one) to have your child solve problems such as, "I saw 3 cows and dad saw 5 cows. How many cows did we see altogether?" or have them make tally marks for how many cows they see! Or green cars, or semi trucks, or anything you can think of! Or here's my favorite, "3 minutes ago, I told you that we have 1 hour and 30 minutes left to go. How many minutes do we have now?"

At home ideas:

  • Cooking and baking! Especially when you need to double that recipe!
  • Dividing the cookies equally among a certain number of plates.
  • Figuring out how many ___ we will need if everyone gets 2, 3, 4, etc.

Online options:

  1. ZEARN! This is an excellent math program that kids love and is provided free of charge through the school district. Just have your student log into my.bvsd.org and click on the Zearn tile from their apps page.
  2. Cool Math is another kid favorite, and it's free!
